Near-ear sound pressure level distribution in everyday life considering the user’s own voice and privacy

چکیده
Recently, exploring acoustic conditions of people in their everyday environments has drawn a lot attention. One the most important and disturbing sound sources is test participant’s own voice. This contribution proposes an algorithm to determine own-voice audio segments (OVS) for blocks 125 ms method measuring pressure levels (SPL) without violating privacy laws. The voice detection (OVD) here developed based on machine learning set features that do not allow speech reconstruction. A manually labeled real-world recording one full day showed reliable robust results. Moreover, OVD was applied 13 near-ear recordings hearing-impaired participants ecological momentary assessment (EMA) study. analysis shows grand mean percentage predicted OVS during approx. 10% which corresponds well other published data. These had small impact median SPL over all However, short intervals, significant differences up 30 dB occurred measured SPL, depending proportion background noise.

The Role of Online Social Networks in Users' Everyday-Life Information Seeking
Background and Aim: Considering the increasing number of users who interact with online social networks, it can be inferred that these networks have become an essential part of users' lives and play different roles in their everyday life. Therefore, the present study aims to explore the role of these networks in users' everyday-life information seeking. Method: This research is an applied resea...
متن کاملObservations on hearing aid users' strategies for controlling the level of their own voice.
BACKGROUND Evidence suggests that hearing-aid users have difficulties with own-voice level control, most likely because their auditory feedback is affected by hearing-aid amplification. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate how changes to auditory feedback affect the voice level of hearing-aid users. RESEARCH DESIGN A correlational study was set up to investigate the relation...
متن کاملSimulating the sound of one’s own singing voice
The often-discomforting percept of unfamiliarity of one’s own voice when heard as a pre-recorded analog or digital signal has received limited attention in perception research. In this paper a digital filter that simulates internal hearing is studied in terms of self-perception of singing by a trained female singer. The processed sound is evaluated to determine the proximity of match to the sou...
متن کاملComparison between intensity and pressure as measures of sound level in the ear canal.
In-the-ear calibration of sound pressure level may be problematic at frequencies above 2 kHz, because the pressure can vary significantly along the length of the ear canal, due to reflection of sound waves at the eardrum. This issue has been investigated by measuring behavioral thresholds to tones in a group of human subjects (N = 61) for two different insertion depths of an insert earphone. Th...
متن کاملExternal and middle ear sound pressure distribution and acoustic coupling to the tympanic membrane.
Sound energy is conveyed to the inner ear by the diaphanous, cone-shaped tympanic membrane (TM). The TM moves in a complex manner and transmits sound signals to the inner ear with high fidelity, pressure gain, and a short delay. Miniaturized sensors allowing high spatial resolution in small spaces and sensitivity to high frequencies were used to explore how pressure drives the TM. Salient findi...
